Northern Elephant Seals - [Mirounga angustirostris]
San Simeon Beach, CaliforniaStanding out amongst this female harem of Elephant Seals is one molting female. Looked like an old torn t-shirt to me. The harems range in size reaching upwards to 100 females to one dominant bull. A successful dominant bull can sire over 500 pups, yet many bulls will never even mate and will be forced to the fringes of a colony in hopes to mate with a female without the dominant bull taking notice. Elephant seals spend upwards of 80% of their lives in the ocean. Males can weigh from 1,500–2,300 kg (3,300–5,100 lbs. The females can weigh from 400 to 900 kg (990-2,000 lbs).

How archival are Metal Prints?
Images printed with the MetalPrints process will last for generations when displayed indoors and out of direct sunlight. Like any fine art print, MetalPrints should not be exposed to direct sunlight or high outdoor temperatures. MetalPrints have an additional benefit over giclee or photographic processes in that they are waterproof and have an ultra-hard scratch resistant coating. The archival value of a print should be judged not only by its resistance to degradation by U.V. light and ozone exposure, but also to moisture and surface damage. When these factors are brought into the equation, MetalPrints are an excellent way to preserve an image.
